The Asset Is the Build

Everyone wants to own the idea. Far fewer can make it real.

Strategy is teachable. Creative is hireable. The deck travels light. The plant does not.

The scarce thing in experiential is the build. Fabrication space. Crews who actually know the work. Equipment. Logistics. Installation against a deadline that does not move. That capacity takes years to assemble and cannot be conjured for a single pitch.

Private equity sees it clearly. That is why the platforms are buying production, not only agencies. The physical infrastructure is the moat. The strategy layer gets built on top of it, because that is the part that can be added.

Which means the independent fabricator has been holding the harder asset the entire time. And handing it away late.

The old position is a late one. Enter after the brief is set. After someone else owns the relationship. Bid on scope another party defined. Compete on price. Take the production slice, and watch the rest of the budget go somewhere else.

The new position is an early one. Build the agency relationships before the RFP exists. Become the partner the strategy shop calls first, not the vendor it calls last. Shape the work while it can still be shaped. Own more of the conversation, and with it, more of the budget.

The build was always the hard part to copy. The work now is to stop treating it as the last step in someone else's process. And start treating it as the reason the client should have called in the first place.
